client: National Portrait Gallery
project: Family Faces
medium: Exhibition

In Family Faces (the second of the Reaching Out, Drawing In series) families from differnt backgrounds worked with a ceramic artist to create sculptures (inspired by portraits from the collection) to represent their own family.

We developed distinct interactive areas to encourage visitors to contribute: A reading area with a variety of books for differing ages, large inviting bean bags, jigsaw puzzles, frame cards for visitors to draw their own family as well as 'washing lines' to display their work. We also incorporated a series of felt squares and shapes for the visitors to create faces. A range of dressing up items were available too (reproductions of clothing from Collection portraits hung in the gallery).
