Inner Picture was the first of a series of six exhibitions developed under the
moniker Reaching Out, Drawing in, a community education programme at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG).
Young people outside mainstream education worked with artists to create installations and an animation
based on their responses to the NPG's collection. It was vital for the young people's work to be displayed with the same sensitivity
as the NPG collection.
We developed an area of the gallery for the visitor to create their own 'inner picture' using cards we had pre-printed with single colour
picture frames. This was a low cost solution, which proved so successful the cards had to be reprinted a number of times.
